Grant Programs

McAuley Ministries distributes grant funds through several categories to achieve our overall goals. McAuley Ministries may award grants in response to applications for funding or in response to Requests for Proposals issued by McAuley Ministries. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations delivering services and working within the target communities.

Funded programs must comply with a set of requirements described in McAuley Ministries' grant agreement. The size of grant awards, specific eligibility requirements, and guidelines vary by grant program.

Preference is given to proposals that:
  • Address a critical community need or opportunity in the Hill District, Uptown, or West Oakland
  • Address root causes of a problem and propose systemic change
  • Involve collaboration and cooperation with other organizations or agencies, including involvement by those served by the program
  • Include clear implementation plans with goals, strategies, and timetables
  • Include measurable outcomes and an effective mechanism for measuring the impact of the program
  • Exhibit sound and realistic financial plans as well as diverse funding sources
  • Will not duplicate existing services unless there is a clear need for additional services
  • Can be replicated by other organizations
Proposals funded by McAuley Ministries:
  • New programs and projects
  • Ongoing programs and projects
  • Capacity building initiatives, including general operating support
  • Capital projects that advance the strategic priorities of McAuley Ministries
Proposals not funded by McAuley Ministries:
  • Travel unrelated to capacity-building
  • Acute care/hospital services
  • Biomedical research
  • Endowments
  • Historic Preservation
  • Existing financial obligations or debt liability
  • Political activities, including campaigns and lobbying
  • Programs that happen to serve residents of the Hill District, Uptown, or West Oakland, but are not directly targeted to those communities
