The Tradition Continues »
In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to Pittsburgh to minister to the needs of some of our community's most vulnerable. They quickly became known as "the walking nuns" for their extensive work among the poor, sick, and uneducated. While the Sisters no longer have a hospital in Pittsburgh, they continue to rebuild lives through today's Pittsburgh Mercy Health System. Learn more about today's Pittsburgh Mercy Health System by reading "The Tradition Continues."

McAuley Ministries 2011 Community Conversation »
McAuley Ministries was established in 2008, and has been operating from the grant-making priorities outlined in its first strategic plan. Since McAuley Ministries plans to revisit its priorities in 2011, the Board of McAuley Ministries invited the leaders of the organizations serving the Hill District, Uptown, and West Oakland—McAuley's target neighborhoods—for input regarding the community's key assets and strengths, and the best opportunities to leverage those assets. McAuley Ministries asked Luci Dabney, executive director of Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise (PACE) to facilitate a "World Café Conversation," a lively practical method of facilitating a group to think creatively together. This method is based on the assumption that people already have within themselves the wisdom and creativity to confront even the most difficult challenges. The goal for the conversation was to understand if McAuley Ministries is focusing on the issues that leverage the community's assets and the initiatives that best position the community for positive change.
